It’s not the same!!

After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberius; and on the wise he shewed himself. (2) There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. (3) Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They also say unto him. We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. (4) But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. (5) Then Jesus  saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. (6) And he saith unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the net, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.(John 21:1-6 KJV)

Have you ever been in that place in your life, when you was certain that things around you would go one way, but it turns out to go another? This is exactly where the disciples were. This was after the crucifixion of Jesus and even though Jesus had risen and shown himself to his disciples. They were still at a what now place. What do we do when we find ourselves at that what now place. You know that Jesus appeared to you, you even touched his scars and he touched your doubts, but still you didn’t think that your walk would be like this. Do we say as Peter said. I go a fishing. In other words I’m going to go back to what I know. I’m returning to what is familiar. I’m going back to my comfort zone. The other disciples with him decided to also go along. The only problem with that the scripture says that night they caught nothing.

Here is why they caught nothing. They were trying to go back to who and what they use to be, but Jesus had already told them that they would become fishers of men. The fact this verse let’s us know that it was night, let’s us know that it was a dark time or a dark season in the lives. It’s in the dark seasons in our lives when like the disciples we catch nothing. It’s that time when nothing seems to go our way. We question did Jesus really appear to us, we may even question if we’re honest to admit it did we follow Jesus in vain, because something happened in our walk that was unexpected. Maybe your ministry never took off the way that you prayed, maybe it was sickness, death, the loss of finances, but verse 4 says but when the morning now come. Wow! This is powerful simply because it reminds us that after every night season morning will follow. The Bible even says that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. For the disciples morning has now come and with the morning was Jesus.  Only the verse says that the disciples did not know that it was Jesus! How could that be though. Wasn’t these the same ones that walked with Jesus for three years surely they should have realized that it was him. Maybe they should have, but do we always recognize Jesus after our night season, or have we gotten so used to it being night that we fail to recognize Jesus in the morning.

Jesus knew that they had been out there all night and they caught nothing. When he called out to them asking if they had any meat. It wasn’t because he didn’t know, I believe that it was to get them to realize that what I knew before no longer works for me without you. That them saying no was them admitting that they couldn’t do it on their own. When God asks us things especially of the dry things in our lives he knows how we tried it on our own and he knows that we came up empty. In verse 6 Jesus instructs them to cast their nets on the right side of the ship, then they would find. In other words now that you tried doing it your way and that didn’t work cast your net on the right side my side and it’s there where you will find what you’ve been looking for.

The problem with trying to go back to your old life after being in a relationship with Jesus is that it’s just not the same anymore, because your not the same. Peter and the disciples couldn’t just go back to fishing because God anointed them for so much more. Maybe the reason why your catching nothing is because you slipped back into the familiar when God has anointed you for so much more.  It’s just not the same where you left it. So cast your net on the right side. On God’s side.

God’s blessings,

Aqua
