(9) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (10) As we therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men especially unto them who are of the household of faith. ( Galatians 6:9-10 KJV)
Can we get personal for a minute? This is one of the places where I struggle in with my walk with God the most. The being weary of well doing. The word weary means in this sense impatient or dissatisfied with something (physically and mentally exhausted, fatigue, tired) I would get so angry with God, because I was tired of trying to live well for him and not seeing my prayers answered ( the way I wanted them answered, truth is he answered some of it was a flat-out no or a simple yes but wait). I would get angry at him when I saw him bless those around me who wasn’t even trying to even get close to him. I would get angry at trying to do people right only to be treated with insignificance. I got weary of giving advice to friends and praying for them, but when I had a need finding myself standing alone. I got weary in giving to others but not getting anything in return. I’m not claiming to be perfect but I am being very transparent right now. Sometimes we reach a place in our walk with God where we look around and we think God where are you. I’m not perfect, but I am trying to please you. I believe that there is a reason why Paul encourages us not to be weary in well-doing. Simply because he knew that there would come time when we would feel as though what we would do for the Lord is all in vain. Especially when we’re trying to live a life that is pleasing to him. If you read two verses up it reads.
(7) Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (8) for he that soweth to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap everlasting life. ( Galatians 6:7-8)
This verse is for people out there like me. The ones who get discouraged looking at what he’s doing in the lives of others (the ones not serving him). To deceive means to give a mistaken impression. So many times we make the mistake of looking to the left and being deceived by what we see! We’ll say things like God it isn’t fair they’re not even trying, when will it be my turn. Paul is telling us not to be deceived by what we see. God is not mocked. The bible says that he makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good, he sends rain on the just and the unjust. (Matthew 5:45) There will be times when it seems as though the ungodly are prospering, there’s going to be times when we question whether God is going to move for us and there is also going to be times when you question is this even worth it. Why should I try to do right when those around me is prospering doing evil. Here’s why we continue on in our well-doing. GOD IS NOT MOCKED! He knows those that are his, he sees your labor of love and the sacrifices that you have made for his sake, he sees every time you did right and got frustrated at the lack of return. What God has planned for you is nothing compared to what it looks like he’s doing for the ungodly. The scripture says that God is not mocked! To mock is to imitate someone or something closely, it means to treat with contempt or ridicule. So if the bible says that God is not mocked, then we take that as an assurance that he himself sees those who either imitate the Christian life or those who have straight up contempt for the Christian walk and they will reap what they sow. Let me explain something when I say those who imitate the Christian life. I’m not referring to those who may have stumbled or made mistakes (we all have made mistakes at some point in our walk) but rather I’m referring to those parading as sheep in wolves clothing. Those who presents themselves as lovers of God, but inside they try to tear God’s kingdom apart. They try to tear it apart by backbiting, stealing, spreading corruption and causing discord wherever they go. It can be frustrating when it seems as though that’s the type of people who is prospering. Sometimes it can make you question why should you continue in living for God, when it seems as though those who are spreading discord and corruption is doing better than you are. Here’s why.
(9) But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear has heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. ( 1 Corinthians 2:9)
The scripture says that we have not seen or heard what God has prepared for us! What is that thing that you see the ungodly blessed with that makes you question God and ask why not you? Is it a promotion on the job, marriage (either someone getting married, or a marriage being restored) is it them taking vacations all over the world, here’s one for the Christian bloggers out there is it the fact that it can be hard to gather a following when those who blog about celebrity gossip has tens of thousands of subscribers. Pay attention to this though the scripture says Eye hath not seen, nor ear has heard. I want for you to get this. If you have seen it done before then God has something better than what you or I can ever imagine, that’s never been done. If you have heard that its been done before then God wants to bless you with something that’s never even been heard of! This scripture refers to the afterlife and heaven, but I believe that God can bless us like that on this side of heaven as well. After all he is God!!
Paul encourages us not to be weary in well-doing in due season we shall reap but the key is we can’t faint and give up. Do you know that most people give up just before the blessing. I was talking to God about my frustrations of watching others prosper while it seemed that I was stagnant. He told me not to compare my life to a lily when I made you to be an oak tree. As beautiful as lilies appear to be on the outside, they have no root and they can be easily plucked. It doesn’t take long for it to grow and its lifespan compared to that of an oak tree is very short. An Oak tree on the other hand there roots are deep and wide, it may take longer for an oak tree to reach is full potential but when it does. It’s magnificent not only that, but it’s planted so deep that it won’t just be able to be plucked up! It doesn’t bend easily and its one of the strongest out of all the trees. In other words God was telling me. I know what I created you for don’t be discouraged because those around you has bloomed it just isn’t your time. There’s nothing wrong with a lily. It provides beauty in a dark world but an oak tree it was meant to stand strong.
Let us not be weary in well-doing, eventually we will reap if we faint not!
