Be Still

Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10 KJV)

I am in a season of tiredness. Tired of being criticized because I am who I am and my actions does not measure up to how someone else feels that it should. I am tired of the respect of persons. I am tired of being told constantly that God can’t use me because I don’t pass human inspection of what is useable to God. The last I checked God can do all things but fail. Most of all I’m just tired of most people.

This morning I had a conversation with a friend and I fussing about my situation. I was telling her that I was at my breaking point. I’m the kind of person who holds a lot in until I blow up and honestly I felt close to that point. My friend started to tell me to let it go and she started encouraging me with different scriptures. One resonated with me deeply that I found myself mediating on for the rest of the day.

Be still and know that I am God.

To be still means to not move or make a sound; deep silence; make or become still.  I know that God was telling me that he needed for me to get to a place where I can just be still. For the past few weeks I found myself mentally exhausted fighting people who have no say in my purpose and in what God has called me to do. I found myself being frustrated by people who will never see me. No matter what I do for God. For weeks I battled with people’s opinions who didn’t matter. When all God wanted was for me to be still. In the midst of frustration in the midst of being misunderstood. My job was simply to just be still. There is a blessing that comes in being still in the presence of God. It’s in the stillness that he refreshes us. That he encourages us. It’s when we’re still that the frustration melts away. It’s when we’re still that he gives us both rest and direction. The scripture says and know that I am God. A lot of the times when we struggle with a situation our first response is to try to handle it on our own. When someone upsets us we want to put them in their place. When it’s a situation that we feel that we can control. We try to control it until the moment that we can’t and it becomes too much. One of the meanings of the word know is to observe or to inquire. So in the time of being still we’re to also observe who God is. We’re to observe his sovereignty. As I was mediating on this another scripture popped into my spirit.

The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine hands. (Psalm 138:8 KJV)

It’s in the time of being still that we begin to trust in the God who is ordering our steps. It’s then that we begin to relax knowing that God is perfecting that very thing that has us so troubled. In the NLT version it says that the Lord will work out his plans for my life your faithful love endures forever, Don’t abandon me for you made me.  Knowing that God is working out the plan for our lives gives us the confidence to simply face tomorrow. It gives us the assurance that no matter who or what may come way.  That the Lord is perfecting that very thing and that ultimately it’s going to work out for your good (Romans 8:28).

I’m going to close with this. A lot of my frustration stemmed from the fact of being told that God couldn’t use me in my frustration and discouragement. The truth of the matter is that God has used me more in the times of frustration, discouragement and even in depression. Than he has during my sunny seasons. Don’t let anyone make you feel that God can’t use your shortcomings for his ultimate glory. Be still in the presence of God and trust that he’s working out HIS PLAN for your life.

God’s blessings,
