But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. (Isaiah 43:1 KJV)
I don’t know about you, but I have been called by many things in my life time. I’ve been called ugly, fat, emotional, crazy etc etc. It’s a hurting degrading feeling to be called something other than what you are. Sometimes, these names can leave an lasting impression on our lives. If we hear these negative names long enough. We can start to believe that is who we are. That is all we would ever be. Well, I am here to tell you WRONG. God has called us by name! Which means that he did not call us by our past failures, he did not call us by our sins, our bad habits and he definitely did not call us by other people’s negative opinions of us. No, rather God has lovingly calls us by name. According to Merriam-Webster name simply means a word of phrase that constitutes the distinctive designation of a person or thing. Get this people. Since God called you by name. It is distinctive. Meaning that it is unique. He called each of us by name and for each of us it is a distinct calling. In the above passage of scripture. The Lord tells Israel Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. Remember when I mentioned earlier that God does not call us by our past sins and past mistakes. Here is proof. God told Israel. For I have redeemed you. According to Merriam-Webster to be redeemed means to release from blame or debt; to free from consequence of sin, here’s my favorite to change for the better. God not only calls us by name, but he releases us from the consequences of our sins. He changes us from the inside out for the better. He does this because we are his.
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. (Isaiah 43:7 KJV)
God does not only call us by name. He also calls us by his name. Don’t believe me read vs 7 again. Even every one that is called BY MY NAME. First, I believe that God calls each of us by name to get our attention. For most of us when God first called us to him. We had little to no idea of who he was or how he could have even known us. I am a big fan of the show The Chosen. One of my favorite episodes was when Mary Magdalene was battling demons and she was known by the name of Lilith. Now, Lilith is a pretty name, but it was not her name. When she came across Christ. He called her Mary. Which stopped her in her tracks. For years she had been going by another name. Until she met up with Jesus and he called her by name. Which was her true identity. Lilith represented someone she was not. Lilith, represented a life of torment. It represented a life of being bound. How many of us answered to other names, because that’s what our circumstances said that’s who we are. Or that’s who people assume that’s who you are. When God calls us by name. He calls us by who he has created us to be. To be called by his name. Is to be called for his glory. God told Israel that I created you for my (God’s ) glory. Here’s my personal testimony. Which I believe that a lot of people can relate to. God is cleansing me from the guilt of my past. A lot of the things that I have said or done. Did not bring glory to God’s name. He told me but Aqua, you are missing it though. I get the glory over a changed life. Over a changed heart. I allowed people to see you in your most messed up state. So that I (God) may get the glory when they witness you in your most beautiful state. Walking in who I created you to be. I want to encourage you all with this. It does not matter what your past looks like. God has called you by name. In Psalm 139:14 it tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We were made for God’s glory. In Isaiah 43:7 scripture tells us I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
Remember that you were formed by God. To bring glory to his name. You were not only called by name. You were also called by his name. You will be all that God has created you to be. Don’t let life and circumstances define who you are. Rather, let God mold you. Let God define you. You were not called by your worst failures. You were not called by your worst sins. No, you were called by name and in that name is your true identity. Refuse to be called by anything other than who or what God says that you are. For you are called by name.
