Pilate saith into him, what is truth? And when he said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no fault in him at all. (John 18:38 KJV)
Ever since Eve was deceived in the garden of Eden. The world has been in a search for the truth. It seems that everyone has the answer to what truth really is. I mean take a look around at this world today. There are thousands of different religions out there today. Each one claiming to be on the side of truth. We have some who seek out mediums and psychics. In search of what they hope is the truth. We even hear people say. I’ve even uttered these words myself. I am speaking my truth. Which I am learning is not necessarily a lie but it is a truth based on an individual perspective and not on a whole picture. In the above scripture Jesus is standing before Pilate who asked him. Are you a king? Jesus replied in verse 37 with Thou sayest that I am king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world. That I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate then asked the age old question that has plagued the world. Since the beginning of time. What is truth? In this exchange. I am beginning to understand that apart from Jesus. We will never be able to fully comprehend and know what truth really is. Jesus made the statement. Every one that is of truth heareth my voice. In other words those who spend their time with him . In his presence. Studying and reading his word. Learning who he is. Learning of the Father God through him. Pilate had truth starring him right in his face. Yet, he couldn’t fully recognize him because he couldn’t hear his voice. Better yet, I should say that Pilate couldn’t recognize that Jesus is truth. I have a question. How many of us out there. Have unsaved love ones whether family or friends. Who is searching for answers to just life in general? They read this book and that book. They watch this documentary. They read up on historical events. Yet, when you try to share the message of the gospel of Christ. They cut you off and don’t want to hear it. They don’t recognize Jesus as the truth. We can spend our lives seeking for the truth, but yet when it’s in our face we don’t recognize it. The fact that Pilate even asked the question. What is truth? Shows that he had an interest in it. Just not enough to truly seek it out. When it was standing there right in his face.
(3) But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: (4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the eyes of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4 KJV)
The apostle Paul tells us that if the gospel be hid. Or I can put it like this. That if the truth of the gospel is not known. It is hid to them who are not in Christ. Paul refers to the god of this world. Which we know to be Satan. Has blinded them which believe not. The thing about truth is that it opens your eyes to what something really is. The enemy desires to keep us blinded. To not only who God is but to also what Jesus has accomplished for us on the cross. Scripture tells us lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God should shine unto them. In other words Satan desires to keep them blinded so that the truth of God’s word won’t shine a light on them. Have you ever stopped to think of the great lengths that people will go through to keep a lie covered? Especially, if that lie works to a person’s advantage. Satan knows that there is freedom in God’s word. That the more that we read of it. The more that we eat of it. It is the more that we come into not only the knowledge of who God is, but also of the schemes and tactics of the devil. Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians 2:11 lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. For those who are in Christ we know the tricks and the schemes of the enemy. We are not ignorant of the devices and the lies that he uses. For those who refuse to believe the truth however. Satan already had them blinded so that they may not be able to receive the truth. When presented to them. Paul calls the enemy the god of this world. Some people are so in love with this world. So in love with sinful living that they may not want to know the truth. One of the biggest lies that Satan tells his deceived. That they can lives how they please. That there is no consequence of heaven or hell. He paints the gospel of Christ as a myth and even though he himself (Satan) knows the word. He twist it for his benefit and he makes you doubt if it is the truth. Here is the thing about a lie that no one talks about. Is that the person who starts the lie. Knows the truth to the lie that they twist and fabricate. The devil knows that in Christ we are not condemned that we are free to live Holy before God. Yet, he plants seeds that we are unforgiven.
(31) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then you are my disciples indeed; (32) and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32 KJV)
This is Jesus. Talking to the Jews who believed in him. He tells them if you continue on in his word. Then you are truly his disciple. A disciple is simply a follower of a religious or moral person. Such as Jesus. A lot of people like to quote from the scripture that ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. However, they miss the part in verse 31 that says if you continue on in his (God’s) word. Then it will cause us to know the truth. His word is what frees us from the lies of Satan. Truth is that we can’t be disciples of Jesus apart from his word. Scripture tells us that if we continue in his word. Then we shall know the truth and it will make us free. Do you know what I get from this passage of scripture? That we can’t start off in the word of God but leave it to search for other “truths”. In the book of 1 Timothy 4 scripture tells us that in the latter times (the last days) that some will depart from the faith. Giving heed to seducing spirits. Which simply means being enticed away. By false doctrine. Following after teachers who speak what they want to hear. Who will tell you that you don’t have to let the Holy Spirit lead you. Or change you. One of the biggest deceptions that I am seeing within the church today. Is the lie that we can look like the world but say a verse of scripture here and there. Post a pray on social media or say how good God is every once in a while. In the midst of timelines of worldly parties or the image thereof. Yet, claiming to be holy and set apart. You see Paul wasn’t warning Timothy about those in the last days who never accepted Jesus as Lord. No, he is referring to those who seemed to have been a follower of Jesus. As I see more and more people begin to fall away from the faith. I am saddened to realize that a majority of them don’t even realize that they’ve falling away. The thing about following after seducing spirits. Is that it tells us that we are still seeking after God. Yet, it slowly draws us away from God. Jesus tells us that if we continue on in his word. Then we are his disciples indeed and we shall know the truth and it shall make us free. God’s word is that truth that makes us free. Continue in his word!
